Dr. John N. Short By offering the majority of courses in the University's general education program, which every MU student completes, and by enrolling well over a third of all MU students in the School's majors, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences is at the heart of liberal learning at Millersville.

The liberal arts not only reference a set of subjects for study across the humanities and social sciences, but also a way of learning and developing basic intellectual abilities. Students studying the liberal arts learn to define and clarify questions, gather relevant information, critically analyze and evaluate it, devise and revise resolutions, communicate conclusions and persuade and collaborate with others. These are the abilities that allow our graduates to continue learning, long after they have left our campus buildings and walkways.
