Athletic Facilities Renovation & Expansion: a multi-phase plan of improvement

field Construction began this summer on the new baseball field. Located near the corner of Prince and Cottage Streets, the new diamond marks the continuation of comprehensive upgrades to the University's athletic facilities.

Improvements to our athletic facilities continue to unfold and many varied and exciting ways to support our student athletes are available.

A new baseball stadium is under construction near the corner of Cottage and Prince Streets. Anticipated to be finished by late fall 2006, our players are tremendously excited by the prospect of returning home after playing off-campus for two years. This stadium will change the face of Millersville University baseball. The completed complex will provide a state-of-the-art home for our players. It will also provide a competitive edge since our new diamond will be best in PSAC for size and turf (it includes an irrigation system so the field will maintain consistent quality for play). Distinct practice areas in addition to the diamond will enable us to host summer camps to enhance the skills of aspiring student-athletes and introduce them to the opportunities on our campus.

The baseball stadium will maintain the ‘Millersville University’ look. Brick walls will wrap around the dugouts. Bleachers accommodating 175-200 spectators behind home plate will also be enclosed on three sides by brick. Not only will fans have a great view of the game, but they will also be able to look beyond the diamond into trees completing the feel of a country setting on a completely modern campus.

Track and Field improvements

  • An enlarged playing field at Biemesderfer Stadium accomodates football, men's and women's soccer, and women's field hockey. Designed with Field Turf, a leading artificial turf, the new field allows greater playing access with less wear and tear. By minimizing climate concerns related to drainage, we can schedule the field more frequently, better serving MU student needs and strengthening our partnership with Penn Manor School District. COMPLETED AUGUST 2005
Training and Competitor Accommodations
  • Locker rooms enhancements are in progress to accomodate both men and women.
  • A weight training facility with new equipment nears completion at the stadium. This addition will significantly improve training opportunities for our intercollegiate athletes. Serving men's and women's sport teams, this facility will enable our student athletes to develop, enhance and refine sport specific power, strength, agility and endurance. TO BE COMPLETED BY FALL 2006
Spectator and Media Considerations
  • Permanent visitor seating will be installed. Excavations for the expanded field and track make the timing right to address this component in a cost-effective manner. COMPLETED AUGUST 2005
  • Structural and cosmetic improvements on the home side will seal and repaint bleachers and expand the press box. These upgrades will improve spectator accommodations and better accommodate media members and team statisticians.

Millersville University’s athletic venues today provide great opportunities for students to demonstrate their abilities and leadership qualities on sites that are modern, safe and welcoming. For more information contact Francis.Schodowski@millersvile.edu.
