Glossary

 

IPM (Integrated Pest Management System) – A bug/insect control treatment plan utilizing as few chemicals as possible.

Sustainable - Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment.  Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.

Fair trade – Products that are made while workers are being paid well and working conditions are safe and acceptable. The company producing is also very conscious of the environment they are working in and around.

Certified Organic - Anyone who produces, processes, or handles organic agricultural products must be certified by a USDA-accredited certifier in order to sell, label, or represent products as organic.

Organic (Not Certified) – An approach to farming rather than a production plan or process. The goal is to create an environmentally and economically agricultural production system.
