Below are a list of terms I collected during this project.
Transfer station - a building for the temporary deposition of some wastes. Transfer stations are often used as places where local waste collection vehicles will deposit their waste cargo prior to loading into larger vehicles. These larger vehicles will transport the waste to the end point of disposal or treatment.
Resource Recovery Facility - creates clean renewable energy (electricity), from the combustion of non-hazardous solid waste, and the sale of electricity creates revenue for the Authority.
Landfill - a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial and is the oldest form of waste treatment, and now a way to produce gases for energy.
Recyclable Waste- Glass, Paper, Metal, some types of plastics.
Hazardous Waste- Cannot be recycled and can be dangerous- Automotive products, paint and solvents, electronics.
Non-Hazardous waste- put into land fills or burned for energy- Construction Debris, Crude oil and gas, Organic materials, house hold waste, medical waste. |
