What is EHEM?
It is a multidisciplinary minor offered by Millersville University of Pennsylvania in Environmental Hazards and Emergency Management. It brings together four distinct academic disciplines: sociology, geography, earth sciences and occupational safety.
Why EHEM?
The FEMA Higher Education Project was initiated in 1995 to encourage institutions of higher education to develop programs that would prepare the next generation of citizens, leaders and emergency personnel to be better educated in disaster and terrorism mitigation, planning and response needs. This program was developed as a result.
Curriculum
Currently, EHEM is the only one of its kind. While based on social science research on emergency management needs, it also includes basic education in specific hazards commonly encountered.
