Extensive Field Experiences

Elementary and Faculty Childhood Education majors participate in extensive field experiences in neighboring schools. During the Introductory Course Block, they observe and assist in the schools for 8 days. Foundations Block requires that they increase their involvement in teaching individual lessons though 8 days in the schools. Students in Professional Block spend 18 days in the schools, serving as the teacher of the class for at least one full day by the end of the experience. In the Student Teaching Block, teacher-candidates teach in two different grades, each for half of a semester. By the end of each of the Student Teaching assignments, they teach for a full week as the teacher-in-charge. In addition to these core field experiences, many individual courses outside of the Blocks require a more modified field experience.
