Afro-American Literature I (ENGL 333H): 3 s.h.

This course is part one of a year-long survey of African-American literature. Explore the literature and oral tradition of African Americans from the beginnings in approximately the eighteenth century through the Harlem Renaissance. Examine literary trends, literary history, and major figures.

Afro-American Literature II (ENGL 334H): 3 s.h.

This course is part two of a two-semester survey of the literature of African Americans. Explore both the literature and the oral tradition of African Americans from the post-Depression era to the contemporary era. Examine—chronologically, whenever possible—the literary trends, literary history, and major figures in African-American literature. Learn to apply current critical discourses to the literature under study.

Shakespeare's life, works, and times; detailed consideration of major plays.

Milton (ENGL 407H): 3 s.h.

A study of Milton’s major poetry and selected prose works against the background of the Puritan Revolution.
