GERM 509 (Undergrad. 409*)  APPLIED LINGUISTICS (3) Study of second language acquisition and practical implications for language teaching. Systematic description of the structure of the German language and comparison with English in order to analyze the errors made by language learners.

GERMAN 586 (Undergrad. 486*)  Seminar in 20th Century German literature (3) Selected readings of works by German writers and poets of the time period. The assigned readings will be announced in May 2010.

GERMAN 571 (Undergrad. 471*)   ASPECTS OF CONTEMPORARY GERMAN CULTURE (3) Selected view of current developments in Germany of significance to its inhabitants. Subjects treated may include: internal politics, foreign affairs (in particular the European Union), economy, educational system, sociological changes, arts and sciences.

COURSE DETAILS - UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Undergraduate students who have 24 or more undergraduate language credits and are able to observe the no-English rule are also permitted to participate. For these students a number of courses such as Conversation, Composition, Functional Grammar Review, Aspects of Contemporary Germany, and sometimes Phonetics are offered on a regular basis. Undergraduate students must seek permission of German Graduate Institute Director prior to registration.
