COSTS & FINANCIAL AID

All summer institutes at Millersville University require students to pay a $165 flat fee per institute (not per course).  This institute fee covers the cost of meals, speakers, and materials that are provided to institute participants.  You will see this $165 fee reflected on your bill along with tuition and the general and technology fees.  Registered students who drop the institute BEFORE June 15, 2009 will receive the $165 fee as a refund.  Students who drop the institute after that date will be expected to pay the $165 institute fee for costs already incurred.  Questions about the institute fee should be directed to the Associate Dean of Graduate & Professional Studies at 717-871-2053. For information about the costs for the programs, please click here.

The German Summer School has been the recipient of a generous Grant each year from Germany's Goethe Institute. Student stipends are awarded on the basis of need and academic achievement. Students should fill out an application and return to the Foreign Language Office by May 1st.

A scholarship in the name of Jean-Paul Levy has been established since the summer of 1994 for students enrolled in the French Graduate Program. Interested MA/MED candidates should fill out an application by June 1st and include a letter in French stating why they wish to receive the Levy Scholarship. Interested graduate students should contact the Director of the French Graduate School Program, Dr. Christine Gaudry-Hudson at 717-872-3663.

FACULTY

The summer school faculty is composed of native and near-native speakers of the various foreign languages. Several come to the U.S. from France and Germany just to teach the summer school and conduct workshops for secondary teachers. Visiting faculty members live in the dormitories with the students and spend much of their extracurricular time with them.

ACTIVITIES

There are a variety of extra non-credit activities consisting of conversation, singing groups, folk dancing, film and video presentations, and performances of plays. The summer schools are operated on the firm belief that participation in a play is a highly effective way of learning a foreign language or increasing one's mastery of that language by utilizing it in a dramatic situation.
