Foreign Language Graduating Senior Exit Interview
As a part of the requirements leading to graduation, the department of foreign languages conducts exit interviews each year. If you are graduating in December, please complete the questionnaire by November 15; if you are graduating in May or in August, please complete the questionnaire by April 15.
Foreign Language Placement Testing
The placement exam is a short test to determine the level of proficiency in the language. The beginning course of enrollment will be advised based on the score of the exam.
A placement test in French, German and Spanish is available for incoming FL majors, transfer students and current MU students. You will be able to take it from home via the Internet. Please complete the online registration form which will come back to the department; we will then contact you via e-mail within with a password and the link to the placement test.
Please note that students who wish to take a foreign language at the 101 or 102 level do not need to take the placement test. If you've had 0-1 year of high school FORL, we recommend that you sign up for 101; with 2 years of foreign language study, we recommend that you register for 102; just contact the department of Foreign languages and we will proceed with an override.

Foreign Language Simulated Oral Proficiency Interviews (SOPI) and Foreign Language Exit Assessment (FLEA)
The Department of Foreign Languages expects that their majors will have reached an ACTFL proficiency level of Advanced by the first semester of their senior year. In order to check their progress, the students are tested at the sophomore and senior level, using the SOPI (Simulated Oral Proficiency Interview). Furthermore, the Department of Foreign Languages expects their majors to have a basic knowledge of the target language culture in its development and in its present state. At the same time as seniors take the SOPI, they are asked to tak the Foreign Language Exit Assessment (FLEA) consisting of 100 multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions on history/geography, literature, current events and culture.
