Faculty Senate Meeting
March 6, 2012

The minutes of the February 21, 2012 meeting of the Faculty Senate were approved as corrected.

(1) NEW UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
EDSE 471: Differentiating Instruction in the Classroom, 3 credits. Proposal for a course to train teacher candidates to develop and apply knowledge, skills, and dispositions in accommodating instruction for English-language learners and students with disabilities was approved without dissent.

(2) NEW UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
ART 246: Sequence, Motion and Visual Communication, 3 credits. Proposal for a course to study of narrative structures and spatial compositions as they relate to time and sequence was approved without dissent.

(3) NEW UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
ART 247: Intro to Experience and Interaction Design, 3 credits. Proposal for a course to focus on the fundamentals of user-centered design and usability issues surrounding Web-based interfaces was approved without dissent.

(4) NEW UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
ART 349: Information Design: Wayfinding, 3 credits, W. Proposal for a W course to introduce principles of Information Design: Wayfinding for environmental signage was approved without dissent.

(5) CHANGE TO UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM
BA, BFA, BSE in Art. Proposal to update course offerings to include new courses in Graphic/Interactive Design was approved without dissent.

(6) NEW UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM
BA Multidisciplinary Studies. Proposal to establish a degree program that allows students to work with faculty advisors to develop a unique course of study tailored to combine interests in multiple fields, culminating in an integrated capstone experience was approved with one opposing vote.

An A. Miller/Saunders motion to amend the proposal to remove comparison of a Multidisciplinary Studies Curriculum Committee to the Social Science Curriculum Committee, specify the MSCC as a standing committee of Faculty Senate, add election of a chairperson for the MSCC by Faculty Senate, and remove reporting to UCPRC was approved without dissent.

A Mahaffey/ Börger-Greco motion that Dr. Carole M. Counihan be granted the honorary title of Professor of Anthropology Emerita was approved without dissent.

A Mahoney/Neuville motion to send the Proposed Revision to the General Education Program (Version I) to the general faculty for approval of the changes via a line-item vote was approved with five dissenting votes.
