Dr. Thompson's interests are in water resources, environmental systems and flying. He taught at the University of New Mexico from 1984 to 1991 and came to Millersville University in 1991. Dr. Thompson's research has focused on water-related issues and he has published articles in professional journals including the Water Resource Bulletin, Physical Geography, the Geographical Review, and the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation. He has published two textbooks on water resources and hydrology.
Dr. Thompson's interest in flying dates from 2001 when he received his private pilot certificate. Flying gives Dr. Thompson the ability to assess land use and resource use conditions from the air. For example, after a flood it is easy to observe areas that were inundated.
