Students should work with their academic advisor to ensure that these three credits are appropriately utilized for the student's major/minor requirements or to fulfill General Education requirements.
Three workshops:
1. Chilean dance: Students will learn about the Cueca, a typical Chilean courtship dance that dates from the colonial times.
2. Mapuche loom weaving: Students will learn the ancient way in which the Mapuches, the indigenous inhabitants of Chile, weave.
3. Chilean cuisine: The students will learn how to cook traditional Chilean dishes.
In addition to the contact hours in Chile, the students will meet several times during the Spring 2008 semester and after the trip in August when they will turn in their course project.
Students who do not have a passport must apply for it right away. It could take a few months for the passport to be issued.

Cost
Program fee: $1400.00.
The program fee includes all this:
- Round-trip transportation from Santiago Airport to Valparaíso.
- Students will be able to learn about authentic Chilean family-life by staying with local families in Valparaíso.
- All meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Computer and Internet access
- Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso library access
- All museum entrance fees
- Wonderful guided excursions to area destinations. All excursions are guided by experts on the destinations. We will visit Santiago (one day), Isla Negra (1 day) Cerros Alegres (1/2 day), and La Sebastiana y el Museo Cielo Abierto (1/2 day).
The program fee does not include:
- three credit Millersville tuition fee
- air fare
- ISIC card –An international ID card which is required by the state of Pennsylvania and Millersville University. It costs about $22.00.
Students will pay a nonrefundable fee of $150.00 by April 11, 2008 to reserve their place. An application form must be sent with the nonrefundable fee. The balance of the costs will be divided in two payments of $630.00 due on April 25, and May 9, 2008.
The tickets for the airfare will be purchased by each individual, but the reservations will be made for the entire group by Travel Time. In order to reserve your seat you must pay a fee of a $100.00 to the travel agent in addition to the price of the ticket. This fee will be returned to you after you return from Chile. I will give you more details about the cost and when you have to purchase the tickets.
Students will be asked to show proof of health insurance coverage.

Financial Assistance
Since this is a 3 credit class, students should contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss their specific financial aid package.
Dates
Students will study in Chile from August 3 until August 18, 2008.
Students will meet with Professor Rivera-Hernández on several occasions before departing, and once after returning.
Accomodation
Students will stay with host families in Chile.
Eligibility
This course is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. Proficiency above the Span 202 level either by having taken the course or placement exam
Credit
The Millersville course will be the equivalent of 3.0 credits for the 15 day program.
