Spending the Spring in England, or South Africa, or Japan, or...

The spring 2007 semester is underway and while the majority of students are taking classes in Millersville, Pa., some are as far away as South Africa and New Zealand. In  addition, international students at Millersville this spring represent 22 countries ranging from Albaniato Spain.

This semester,Millersville has 50 students studying abroad, 10 international exchange students taking classes at Millersville and29 full-time degree seeking international students at Millersville.

The Office of Global Education and Partnerships works with Millersville students going abroad, as well as exchange students, while the International Student Advisor, Rita Miller, works with all of the international students at Millersville who are here on an F-1 student visa including those who comeon exchange programs sponsored by Global Education. Miller plans and provides administrative oversight for the orientation program for new international students, monitors visa status issues and oversees the students’ campus adjustment.

"We serve many more students than just the semester-long exchange students and there is much more international activity than this,” explained Michelle Pollis, program coordinator for the Office of Global Education and Partnerships. “For example, from summer 06 - spring 07 our office has provided international experiences to 241 students. These come not only from incoming and outgoing study abroad students but Millersville courses held abroad in destinations like London; Marburg, Germany; Pamplona, Spain; Mexico and Northern Ireland.”

Other opportunities for study abroad include summer institutes. This comingsummer the 2nd Annual Latino Language, Pedagogy and Culture Immersion Institute will be held at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. There will be a similar program at Millersville with groups from Spain.
