History
The city of Burgos has a population of 166,000. It is the capital of the province Burgos, belonging to the Autonomous Community of Castilla and Leon. The city is outstanding both for its exceptional historic ad artistic heritage and for its geographical location, making it one of the most visited cities in Spain. The city can be easily reached by car, bus, or by train, making it an ideal location for visits to Madrid and other places of interest.
Burgos is a richly historical city. Traces of its 1,100 years of existence are found on every corner. The most important monument is the Cathedral, declared by the UNESCO a World Heritage Monument, a true jewel of architecture. The countless monuments, parks and walks and the little streets in the old part of the city make a wander through Burgos a fascinating experience.
Burgos is an active, modern and clean city, with a remarkable cultural life for a medium-size city. In Burgos, one can enjoy quality shows and performances for all kinds of audiences, from the most classic to the last artistic tendencies (theater, dance, concerts, exhibits, installations, street theater, etc).

Financial Assistance
Students should investigate loans that may be available, such as application for Federal Student Aid. Scholarships have individual regulations and students should contact the Financial Aid Office to determine if their scholarship is transferable. Students can look into grants such as the Rotary Scholarships which cover expenses, including room and board, tuition, and airfare. This scholarship form must be completed one to one-and-one-half years in advance and is available from any Rotary Club. Another option is to research online or stop by our office for additional opportunities. Please see Financial Considerations for more information.
Dates
Students may choose to study abroad at the University of Burgos either for a semester or for a full academic year. The academic calendar is divided in two semesters (cuatrimestres). The first semester begins the first week of October and continues until early or middle February. Classes continue until the February exam session has ended. First semester exams take place in early-mid February. The second semester lasts from early-mid February until the end of June. Classes end in late May or early June. The month of June is entirely devoted to second-semester/full-year exams. Fall semester study is only for students not returning to MU for the spring semester.
Accommodation
Room and board is separate and will be arranged with the assistance of the University de Burgos. Students have several options: campus dormitory (if staying for the entire year); apartments, private room organized by the Catholic Church; or home stays.
Eligibility
Most students who study abroad are traditionally juniors. However, students can and do study abroad anytime after they have completed 24 credits. Students should complete an application to study abroad one semester before wishing to go abroad. Please stop by the Office of Global Education & Partnerships to pick up an application and ask about deadlines. A minimum of a 2.0 GPA, demonstration of at least 202 level Spanish proficiency, an official transcript and two letters of recommendation from professors from your home university are also required. The Director of Global Education & Partnerships will then interview students and a selection will be made shortly after the interviews are completed.
Transfer of Credit
Students should work with their advisors to select courses which will fit into their major(s), minor(s), and General Education requirements, if appropriate.
A Request for Study Abroad Resident Credits form, available in the Office of Global Education & Partnerships, must be completed before the student leaves. After the study abroad program is completed and a transcript is sent to Millersville University, the Registrar's Office determines the final transfer of credit. All courses taken at la Universidad de Burgos will come back to Millersville as transfer credit. Please consult the Undergraduate Catalog ("Transfer Credit") for the transfer policy.
