About UPNA

Many people think of the San Fermin Festival (The Running of the Bulls) when they think about Pamplona, Spain. Although this is the City's hallmark, Pamplona has much more to offer. Beautiful parks and gardens, medieval churches and buildings are all contained within the city's walls. This hospitable and friendly city is filled with local tradition and has many leisure and shopping facilities as well as delicious cuisine.

The Arrosadía Campus of the Public University of Navarra is located in the southern part of Pamplona, surrounded by open views of plush landscape and the river. The Arrosadía Campus is located in the city center and near the bypass which gives quick access to any other part of the metropolitan area of Pamplona. Many bus stops provide a quick means of transport from the campus to almost anywhere in the city; although a considerable number of teachers and students prefer to walk to the university. After all, Pamplona is still a city where the pedestrians can walk from the heart of the city - Castillo Plaza - to the university in less than half an hour.

The Public University of Navarra is only 13 years old. Very young, but intense due to the activity involved in order to transform the Arrosadía area into a combined urban complex, fit for teaching and research work and integrated by a solid collectivity of teachers and administrators.

Financial Assistance

Students should investigate loans which may be available, such as application for Federal Student Aid.  Scholarships have individual regulations, and students should contact the Financial Aid Office to determine if their scholarship is transferable.  Another option is to research online or stop by our office for additional opportunities. Please see Financial Considerations for more information.

Dates

Students may choose to study abroad either for a semester or for a full academic year. The first semester runs from mid-September to late January.  The second semester starts in early February and ends early June.  Study abroad participants receive an orientation at UPNA and have the option to take an intensive week-long Spanish course before the semester begins for an additional cost.  Fall semester study is only for students not returning to Millersville for the spring semester.

Accommodation

Students have the options of an independent apartment rental, residence hall or homestay arrangements within the city of Pamplona.

Eligibility

Most students who have studied abroad have traditionally been juniors.  However, Millersville students can and do study abroad anytime after they have completed their first year or 24 credits.  A limited number of participants are accepted for the exchange each year, and the selection may be competitive.  Students should complete the application for direct student exchange one semester before wishing to go abroad.  Please visit the Office of Global Education and Partnerships’ web site for an application, deadlines and more information.   Students planning to study at the Public University of Navarra must demonstrate a proficiency in the Spanish language equivalent to Millersville Spanish 202.  A minimum of a 2.0 GPA and two recommendations from MU professors are also required.    The Director of Global Education and Partnerships will then review applications and a selection will be made shortly thereafter.

Transfer of Credit

Students should work with their advisors to select courses that will fit into their major and General Education Requirements.  A request for Study Abroad Resident Credits form, available in the Office of Global Education and Partnerships, must be completed before the student leaves.  After the study abroad program is completed and a transcript is sent to Millersville University, the Registrar's office determines the final transfer of credit.  All courses taken at the Public University of Navarra will come back to Millersville as transfer courses, as if you had taken them at another U.S. institution.  Please consult the Undergraduate Catalog ("Transfer Credit") for the transfer policy.
