Academic Standards Committee

Membership
The Academic Standards Committee shall be composed
of:

Three faculty representatives, elected by Faculty Senate,
from each of the four academic divisions (Education, Humanities, Social
Science, Science & Mathematics) and one representative, elected by
Faculty Senate, from non-school faculty for overlapping terms of three
years. Following the third Faculty Senate meeting of the year, vacant
seats may be filled for the remainder of the academic year by faculty from
any school or non-school unit. (passed by Faculty

Two students and two alternates elected by Student Senate
for a one year term.

The director of admissions, director of financial aid, and
registrar (or their designees) serve as ex officio voting members. (passed
by Faculty Senate 4/3/01)

No faculty member may serve more than two consecutive terms.

In addition to the above members, a chairperson who is a
senator is elected by Faculty Senate at the first Senate meeting of the
fall semester to serve a three year term, provided he/she retains Senate
membership.

The terms of the chair and members begin in September and
end in August of the appropriate year.

Functions
-
The committee advises the Faculty Senate of its interpretation
and implementation of undergraduate student academic policies.

The committee acts as a court of appeals for students dismissed
due to failure to meet academic standards, and students denied a degree.
