This commission consists of a maximum of 16 voting members including the commission chairperson.
A majority of the commission members must be women.
There will be a minimum number of voting commission members as indicated below:
Administration --- 2
Faculty --- 6
Students --- 2
Support Staff --- 2
The assistant to the president for social equity and diversity shall serve as an ex officio non-voting member.
One student alternate shall serve and shall have voting privileges when one or both
regular student members are absent from Commission meetings.
The president shall appoint all members of the commission to serve overlapping terms of 3
years, except for students, who will serve two-year renewable terms. All memberships may be
renewed consecutively only once. Student members and alternates are eligible for term renewal
as long as they maintain their active enrollment status.
Replacement for membership may be recommended by the Commission from the various subcommittee memberships.
Appointment to the Commission is at the sole discretion of the University president.
The president shall appoint the chairperson of the commission from among current and previous women members for a 1-year term.
Past chairs may, at the discretion of the University president, be invited to serve on the Commission following the expiration of their terms.
Commission membership shall insure representation from the various units and women of the University community (Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Finance and Administration, etc.).
Functions
To examine the working, learning, and social environment for all women (faculty, administrators, students, and staff) and to recommend appropriate action.
To recommend appropriate action for ensuring gender equity in hiring, promotion, tenure, salary, and professional development of faculty, administration, and staff.
To recommend appropriate action for ensuring gender equity in admissions and retention, student employment, and programs for students.
To review University policies to determine their impact on majority and minority women.
To prepare an annual report.
Modifications
Modifications of the membership and functions may be made by the University president.
