Section 4: Graduate Studies

Thesis

The Graduate Course and Program Review Committee has adopted the Modern Language Association Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations as the standard for thesis production. The Graduate Studies Committee recognizes that alternative style manuals are standard in certain disciplines and for that reason approved the use of the style manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) in the Departments of Industry and Technology, Psychology, and Special Education, and the format recommended by the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) in the Department of Biology. The original and two copies of the thesis, unbound and unperforated, must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office two weeks prior to the graduation date. The Graduate Studies Office will arrange for thesis binding, for which the student must cover costs of binding all three copies. At the time that the thesis is submitted, three copies of a 300- to 500-word abstract of the thesis and payment for binding cost are required. The format for the abstract is available in the Graduate Studies Office. The original must be on 20-pound paper (50 percent or better rag content); the approved reproduction must be on 16-pound bond, using one side of 8-1/2 x 11 inch paper. More specific directions and the requirements for research reports are available from advisers and from the Graduate Studies Office.
