Problem Name: FEED THE ANIMALS

Grade Level:  3-5                                                               Content Area:  Numbers, Systems and Relations

Problem Solution:

Part A -

$25 + $15 = $40

Part A:  To find the amount needed to feed the animals for one day, add

$25 plus $15.

             $40 x $14 = $560

To find the cost for two weeks, multiply $40 times 14 days.

(Students may solve this using repeated addition.)

            Part B –

            $933 ¸ $40 = 23 days

The find the number of days the animals could be fed, divide the amount donated by the cost per day.  The remainder of $13 tells how much money was left over.

(Students may solve this using repeated subtraction.)
