Solution: |

7 X
7 = 49
3 X
12 = +36
85 sq. feet
3 X
5 = +15
85 sq. feet
Explanation: Split the room into 2 parts. Multiply length X width of one part (7 x
7=49) and the length X width of the other part (3 x 12 = 36). Now take the two products
and add them together to find the area.
(49 + 36 = 85) Area is measured
in square feet. The answer is 85 or 85
square feet of carpet.
10 X 12 =
120
7 X
5 = -35
85 sq. feet
Explanation: You need to extend the top wall to 12 ft. and
the side wall to 10 ft. to create a rectangle.
Then multiply the length X width (10 x 12 = 120) to find the area of
this rectangle. Then you need to figure
out the area of the section that was added which is
7 x
5 = 35. Now take the large rectangle
area (120) and subtract the area of the small section that was added (35). 120 – 35 = 85. The area of the room is 85 or 85 sq. ft.
