Problem Solving and Communication

Introduction/applications: 

Trent has recently bought a nursery business in his hometown.  The previous nursery owner told Trent that one type of tree he plans to      sell, the Colorado Blue Spruce, is a popular type.  He needs to make   some important decisions about inventory in the next few days to maintain sufficient stock.

 

Questions:  What is the optimal wholesale restock number to maintain a consistent inventory?

 

Model:  Inventory control

 

Resources and Material (estimated cost): graphing calculator with sequencing capabilities, Handouts (Cover page, Worksheets, Extension)

 

Procedures & Activities:

Calculate monthly stock with a given set of data.  Optimize restock value to meet customer demand.  Analyze future inventory trends.
