Instructional Strategies and
Plan (include strategies used to help different types of learners, i.e.
auditory, visual, etc):
Materials/Resources:
Interdisciplinary
Connections:
·
·
Technology - calculators, computers,
and internet
·
Other – geography, history,
architecture, consumer science
Assessment Strategies:
·
Formative Evaluation
(checking student understanding during the lesson): Teacher will monitor the participation of
students by physically roaming the classroom.
Teacher will intervene when necessary.
·
Summative Evaluation (How
will it be determined that the objectives were achieved?): Students will receive and fill out an exit slip at the end
of the activity to determine how ratios and proportions are used in the real
world.
Students would also take a unit test.
Correctives/Remediation: Students will depend on peer learning and the teacher for
modeling and instruction.
Extensions/Enrichment: Enrichments are provided with each activity.
Special Accommodations
(special needs students)
·
Description of the Special
Needs student selected: Male student with dyslexia
which severely affects his reading and writing performance. He has small and large motor deficiencies and
has excellent math skills.
·
Accommodations to use with
this student: Students are working with
partners and small groups which will allow the student to bypass his
deficiencies in language arts to be successful in this activity. Students will use the KNWS method to assist
in solving complicated word problems.
KEYWORD: PROPORTIONS

Directions: Solve the following word problems using proportions.
Ex: 1 7
_______ = _______
8 N N = 56
Make sure you show all of your work on the worksheet.
* Extension
– Come up with your own word problem that involves calculating tips or
sales. Complete this activity on the
back of this paper.

Proportioning With People
Ex: A tree is 15 ft tall. Mrs. Simpson is 5 ft tall. How many Mrs. Simpsons would it take to equal the height of the tree? 15÷5 = 3 Mrs. Simpsons.
15ft 3 Mrs. Simpsons
__ = ___
5ft 1 Mrs. Simpson
Show all work on a piece of paper.

Mind Your Memory
Directions: Four players. Shuffle the cards and arrange them face down. Each player turns over two cards at random. If the cards are not equivalent the player turns them back over, and the next player takes his or her turn. If the cards are equivalent, the player keeps the pair and takes another turn. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins.
