Office of Academic Advisement: Located in Lyle Hall, Suite E (second floor), this office coordinates advising for all students in conjunction with academic departments and provides services for students who have not declared an academic major. Students experiencing difficulties in achieving their academic goals, or those in a nondegree program are provided specialized academic advisement and counseling.
Entering students are assigned to an academic adviser who is a faculty member in the student's major. Students with exploratory majors are assigned to faculty and administrators trained to advise exploratory students. In majors where there are specialty areas, the adviser assignments are made so that the expertise of the adviser and the interests of the advisee match as closely as possible. When students change majors, new adviser assignments are made as part of the change process.
The AIM for Success Program is an academic enrichment program, partially funded by Higher Education Equal Opportunity Act (ACT 101), designed to open the doors of higher education to students who otherwise would not be admitted due to their standardized test scores (SAT I or ACT) and/or their high school grades. Students are admitted on the basis of their demonstrated potential, motivation, and commitment to their college success and must meet educational and economic guidelines. The Program provides placement testing, developmental instruction, academic advisement, and counseling and academic support services. To facilitate students ' transition into the University, students begin their studies in the summer before their freshman year.
