STUDENT SENATE
Upon matriculation at Millersville, each student becomes a member of the Student Government Association. The association elects representatives to sit on the Student Senate, which is the legislative body of the organization.
The Student Senate approves the constitution of every campus organization, delegates responsibility to its constituent groups, recommends to the University President the distribution of activity fee funds and, when necessary, grants emergency allocations to recognized University clubs and organizations.
As the governmental body of the students, the Senate's role, as an integral component in the administration of the University, is to work in conjunction with the faculty and administration on all policies of the University. Student representatives sit on all major University committees with full voting privileges. One student is appointed to the Council of Trustees as a voting trustee. Five student consultants are selected to represent student views at meetings of the Faculty Senate.
The Student Senate provides participation for its members in sound governmental procedures. Students are consequently given avenues for the development of innovative and creative programs for the University. Such involvement fosters an open atmosphere of communication within the University community.
Student Senate meets regularly throughout the academic year. Every senate meeting is an open meeting. All members of the Association are welcome to attend those meetings and participate constructively in discussions.

The academic grievance committee investigates student complaints about academic matters. The committee is composed of two senators and a non-senator. Students interested in serving on the committee should contact the Student Senate president.
The allocations committee recommends for the distribution of activity fees and periodically checks the financial status of campus organizations. Students interested in serving on the committee should contact the Student Senate treasurer or the Senate president.
The committee makes recommendations to Student Senate on petitions to organize new organizations and reviews constitutions of existing campus organizations. The committee also is responsible for reviewing the Student Senate constitution and bylaws. Committee members are appointed by the Student Senate constitution chairperson. Students interested in serving should contact the Senate president or constitution chairperson.
This committee regulates elections of student government officers and senators by accepting names of candidates and tending ballot boxes during elections. The vice president of Student Senate is the chairperson.
Joint Senate Conference Committee
Matters that concern both faculty and students may be referred to the Joint Senate Conference committee for recommendation. Items may be referred to the committee by either the Faculty Senate or the Student Senate and the committee also may place items on the agenda of either Senate. Three members of the Student Senate are selected annually to serve on the committee for a one-year term.
Students are often appointed to membership on ad hoc committees organized to deal with a University-wide event or issue. In addition, students also are selected to serve on several standing committees of the University. Students are represented on the Cultural Affairs Committee, the Student Affairs Committee, the Faculty-Student Athletic Committee and the University Judicial Board.
