Dialing Tips/Trouble Shooting

 

DIALING INSTRUCTIONS (/Resident Dorm Locations and Hallways)

  • LIFE THREATENING MEDICAL EMERGENCY - 911
    Other Emergencies - 3911
  • On-Campus - Dial the four-digit extension only
  • Off-Campus Locally - 9 + XXX + XXXX
  • Long Distance and Directory Assistance
    Calling Card - 9 + (follow the directions on the back of your card)

    Calling Collect- 9 + 1 + 800 + Collect

    Toll Free Numbers (800,888, etc.)
    9 + 1 + 800 + XXX + XXXX
    OR
    9 + 1 + 888+ XXX + XXXX
  • For dialing campus phone numbers from off-campus: all 3000 extensions have the prefix 872; all other extensions should be dialed with the prefix 871.

TROUBLE SHOOTING AND REPORTING PROBLEMS/TROUBLE

  • Telephone is not ringing
    Calls go directly to voicemail. We do not have the *69 feature in our system. If you attempt to use the *69 feature, you will activate "Do Not Disturb". You will know you have activated this feature when you hear "PRIVATE, PRIVATE" each time you lift the receiver. To deactivate this feature, dial #6.
  • Dial into a host computer
    Use the "Do Not Disturb" feature. Dial *6 to activate, dial #6 to cancel.
  • Hear "Private, Private"
    when lifting the receiver to make a call. You have the "Do Not Disturb" feature activated on your phone line. To cancel this feature, dial #6
  • Report problems/trouble Call the Help Desk at 2371.
    Be prepared to provide your name, telephone number, location (building and room), and the problem.
