  | Dr. Mbindyo's
research interests are in the areas of nanotechnology, environmental,
and analytical chemistry.
He is investigating functionalized biodegradable polymer and magnetic nanoparticles with potential applications in drug delivery. He is also studying microemulsions as green solvents in the analysis of persistent organic pollutants, and templates for synthesis of catalytic nanoparticles for applications in fuel cells. Dr. Mbindyo is engaged in the development of instructional materials for undergraduates in these three areas of chemistry and collaborates in a biogeochemical study of watersheds in the Lancaster area through the Millersville University Center for Environmental Sciences (MUCES). Techniques used include atomic force, scanning, and transmission electron microcopy (AFM, SEM, and TEM), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), gas chromatography electron capture detection (GC-ECD) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). |
