Strategies for Studying Effectively and Doing Well in College
Below, I have links to various websites that provide useful information on doing well in college. Take the time to read the information. None of the pages is very long. In addition to these techniques, I recommend that you:
Read the syllabus so that you know when assignments are due.
Buy a date book and write every assignment and exam on the day it is due.
Attend class and sit near the front.
Review your notes after every class. Write a one paragraph summary of the contents.
After completing the reading and reviewing your notes, record items that do not make sense and ask your professor to clarify (either through email, but then only you benefit or at the start of class so that others benefit).
Attend your professor’s office hours. Come prepared with specific questions about the assignments or course readings. Show that you have made an attempt at mastering the material.
After receiving your graded exams, review them for comments. If you do not get them back, ask to see the exam during your professor’s office hours.
