Chapter 10: Effective Management


Millersville's mission states, "Millersville University resolves to provide a comprehensive range of meritorious baccalaureate programs . . . to all qualified Commonwealth residents at the lowest reasonable cost." In order to keep our programs both meritorious and as cost-effective as possible for our students and their families, we focus attention on the effective management of the University, and that is therefore the fifth theme of our vision. The theme states that we "will manage University resources effectively. . .[and] we will make University programs and services more cost-effective."

Millersville University operates under a team management approach. Administrators, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to work together in a team effort to make sure that all our endeavors are of the highest possible quality and that problems are addressed and resolved from a viewpoint of multiple perspectives. Indeed, our mission states that we pledge ourselves to "unfettered discourse" and "the exchange of divergent and controversial opinion . . . within an environment of civility, mutual respect and cooperation."

This chapter discusses our organizational structure and governance, our history of collegiality and collaboration, our administrative effectiveness, and efforts we make to ensure that our publications and communications are honest and accurate.
