Strengths
The Campus has invested in technology wisely and efficiently, and as a result has good infrastructure in place.
The reorganization of the unit under new leadership has helped to clarify roles and responsibilities and provide more efficient service. While reducing the number of recommended committees substantially, the Vice President for Information Technology has encouraged participation in planning and policy direction through an Academic Technology Council, an administration users group, and an overarching Institutional Advisory Committee. These groups provide forums for constituency representatives to discuss wide-ranging issues.
Millersville's administration, recognizing the challenges of emerging technologies and the far-reaching role of technology in all aspects of campus operations, appointed a task force several years ago to articulate a vision and make recommendations to achieve that vision. One of the task force's recommendations in its August 1997 report was to combine academic and administrative computing resources within one entity, a recommendation which has been implemented. As a result, the resources devoted to both endeavors are more efficiently deployed and better understood by the campus.
Improvements such as one "Help Desk" and consolidation of numerous LANs into one common network have improved access and system deployment. Further efforts to infuse technology into the campus include issuing a computer for each new faculty member, networking the residence halls, and implementing new systems. Over1200 desktop computers are now in use on campus. An equipment replacement program has been implemented. The employment of students as technicians has provided both benefits and valuable experience for students.
The new integrated student Information System and Financial System will provide opportunities for improved services to students, faculty, and staff and will provide new opportunities for data analysis.

Observations/Concerns
The Personnel/Payroll System is a SSHE-centralized system that has emphasized payroll and has not been designed to provide campus personnel data for management and reporting purposes.
