Every year, at the MMAP Annual Mentor/Mentee Appreciation Luncheon, the program presents one Star Mentor and one Star Mentee of the Year Award. Each candidate must be nominated by their mentor or mentee. The MMAP Advisory Council then selects the final award recipients from all nominations. This year, Dr. Vilas Prabhu, Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented these awards on April 10, 2008 at the Annual Luncheon. In addition to the Star Mentor and Star Mentee awards, the MMAP Advisory Council also selected one mentor to receive the Outstanding Mentor of the Year Award.

2008 Outstanding Mentor of the Year, Miriam M. Witmer

Since there are so many mentors who have given their time over a number of years and don’t necessarily receive the recognition they deserve, the MMAP Advisory Council has created a new award.  In addition to the Star Mentor and Mentee of the Year awards, this year the MMAP also presented its first annual Outstanding Mentor of the Year award.  While the Star Mentor Award relies on nominations from students/mentees, the Outstanding Mentor of the Year Award is nominated and chosen by the Advisory Council.  This award recognizes a mentor that has not only gone above and beyond expectations, but has been an exceptional and persistent mentor in the MMAP for at least two years.
