5 reasons why you should consider the Dual Degree program?
- Two different college degrees from two different schools in four years.
- More marketable -- The dual degree program will enable MU students to be more marketable than a traditional athletic training degree or a traditional biology degree. The trend in the allied health and medical professions is to hire individuals capable of performing multiple tasks (cross training).
- Pre-requisites in four years -- Upon completion of the dual degree, students will have completed the pre-requisites for application to the following allied health programs: Physicians Assistant, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Nursing. To fulfill requirements for application to Medical School, students would only need to take one additional course.
- Long history -- Over the years, Millersville University has sponsored many students for the BOC exam through the internship route. Several MU students qualified for the national certification exam by completing specialized coursework through the highly successful "summer program" offered by West Chester University. Designed primarily to meet the needs of students from local colleges and universities, the WCU summer program provided students with a quality educational experience in course work not typically offered through their school's "internship route." This was made possible, in part because West Chester University, Department of Sports Medicine offered an excellent "curriculum" program during the regular academic year. Therefore, the summer program became a natural offshoot of the regular program. The summer program helped to meet the needs of the community and region. The dual degree program described here makes use of the curriculum at WCU (summer program) already in existence.
- No need to commute between two campuses. Students will be required to spend the summer of their Sophomore year at West Chester. Other coursework will take place at MU either in the traditional classroom or via video-conferencing in Bassler Hall on campus.
