Information for Athletes

Athletic Injuries

Injuries sustained during intercollegiate practice or play are initially treated by the athletic trainers. Referrals to Health Service Providers are made by the trainers. Athletic injuries are seen during normal office hours on a walk-in basis. The Medical Director will make referrals to specialists as needed and the Medical Director will make the final decision regarding the athletes ability to play.

Athletic Physicals

Athletic physicals are done primarily during the Spring and Fall Semesters.

Before a student can receive his/her athletic physical, each student must have on file at the Health Services, a copy of his or her required entrance physical for entry to Millersville University. Once this requirement is met, the sports physical can be completed.

Sports physicals are scheduled with the cooperative efforts of coaches, trainers, and Millersville University Health Services staff.

Specific dates are scheduled for each sport. Participants are given specific times to be present. This examination is performed through a "station" system. The first station consists of height, weight, blood pressure, review of recent injuries or illness, review of entrance physical, and immunization status. If the student requires a tetanus toxoid booster, it is given at this time. The second station involves an orthopedic evaluation performed by the certified athletic trainers. The third station is the physical assessment performed by the health care providers.

Completion of sport physical is required prior to practice. Further questions can be directed to sport specific coaches.
