Dr. Debra Lenssen, Vocal Studio

Dr. Debra Lenssen, singer, conductor, and violinist, joined the Millersville faculty in the classroom and voice studio in 2004. Previously she has served as Associate Dean at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music and worked at both Bluffton College and Ohio Northern University in northwest Ohio. She has taught voice, diction, and conducting, while alsoremaining active as a director of music in area churches. Her experience includes conducting major works, writing and staging a Christmas madrigal dinner, taking collegiate choruses on interstate tours, conducting the world premiere of a commissioned work by Alice Parker, and performing in faculty recitals. As a singer she has appeared with the Lima Civic Chorus, Strictly Singing, Cantari Singers in Columbus, t he Chicago Symphony Chorus, and the Chicago Renaissance Chorus. She played in the second violin section of the Lima Symphony Orchestra (Ohio) for over twenty years. In June 2002 she received her DMA in choral conducting from University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where she minored in Arts Administration. She has earned a master’s degree in voice from Northwestern University where she studied conducting with Margaret Hillis. At Wellesley College, she earned her bachelor’s degree in music and won the Billings Performance Award her senior year. She has sung in masterclasses for Kurt Adler, Phyllis Curtin, and Benita Valente, and worked with Richard Westenburg, Dale Warland, and Joseph Flummerfelt inconducting workshops.
