| About the Department |
Millersville University, an accredited institutional member of the National Association
of Schools of Music, utilizes thorough curricula, current technology, and an internationally
recognized artist faculty to provide a unique music learning experience. For an extremely
talented, motivated, and select student body of about 120 music majors, the Music Department
offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree, the Bachelor of
Arts degree with an option in Music Business and Technology, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.
Hundreds of non-music majors participate in the offerings of the Music Department each semester
through numerous challenging and stimulating general music courses and a variety of fulfilling,
high-level performance organizations.
Comprised of some of the finest musicians from Pennsylvania and surrounding states, music majors
gain expertise in their chosen fields and become professional performers on their major instruments
with instruction from a knowledgeable and encouraging faculty. All music curricula begin with a
strong foundation in liberal arts combined with a thorough grounding in the theory, history, and
performance of music. An intensive course of study in Kodaly musicianship
is followed by a diverse selection of theoretical and practical training in the chosen area of study.
Alumni from the Music Department consistently secure jobs and positions in the finest organizations,
school districts, and graduate schools in the country, and many enjoy successful careers in performing
and composing.
