Dr. Cathleen Ardrey, Assistant Professor

Dr. Ardrey received her D.M.A. in music education from Temple University in May of 1999 and is currently doing post-doctoral studies at Carnegie Mellon University in Dalcroze Eurhythmics. She also holds an M.M.Ed. in Kodály music education from Holy Names College in Oakland, California and a B.S.E. in music education from Millersville University. Dr. Ardrey began her career teaching junior high school vocal and general music in the Downingtown and Conestoga Valley School Districts. While working on her master’s degree, she taught elementary vocal and general music in the New Haven School in Piedmont, California. For six years she taught music, English and study skills, and moderated the student council at Providence High School in Burbank, California. In 1993, she started doctoral work at Temple University in Philadelphia. She was granted a scholarship and teaching assistantship. In the fall of 1996, Dr. Ardrey began teaching in the music department of Millersville University. She has conducted the Mixed Chorus, has taught music education classes, private piano, private voice, Introduction to Art Music, Popular Music, Eurhythmics, Language of Music and Class Piano, and has supervised student teachers. She advises the Millersville Music Education National Conference chapter, has served as state collegiate advisor, and has served on the executive boards of Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and District 7. Dr. Ardrey is the choral director for Lancaster Opera Company. She directed the chorus for The Tender Land by Copland, Elixir of Love by Donizetti, Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, The Barber of Seville by Rossini, and Carmen, by Bizet. She was also musical director for the summer children’s opera, The Toy Shop. Since May 2001, Dr. Ardrey has been the choral director for Bethany Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. |
