A soprano of remarkable talent. Her range is matched only by her willingness to
place the music first in the building of a musical product. Her "musicianship was as impressive as her
vocal skills," was the way The New York Times praised Jean Bradel's creation of the lead role, Beata, in
the world premiere of Margaret Garwood's opera, Rappaccini's Daughter. Ms. Bradel, a world-class lyric
spinto soprano, was engaged for three years as a solo artist at Landestheater Linz, Austria. 'A strong
and extraordinary talent' (Volksblatt, Linz, Austria), she performed ten major roles including Mimi in La
Boheme, Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, Antonia in The Tales of Hoffmann, Nedda in Pagliacci, Marguerite in Faust, Elsa in Lohengrin, and Agathe in Der Freischutz, for a total of more than one
hundred seventy performances. She was also operatic guest artist with the opera companies in Basel,
Switzerland and Wiesbaden, Germany and concert soloist with the Austrian National Radio and Television
Orchestra (Vienna, Austria), and with the Bruckner Orchestra (Linz, Austria).
Ms. Bradel graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she
received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Voice and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music. During this
time, she was an apprentice for two seasons with the Santa Fe Opera Company, performed with Italy's Opera
Barga Company for two seasons, was the first place winner of the Music Teachers National Association
Competition, and a Metropolitan Opera Auditions National finalist. She is a frequent soloist with
orchestras in the East, performing with the Pittsburgh, Delaware, North Carolina, Reading, Harrisburg,
York and Lancaster Symphony Orchestras. Her performances included the Verdi Requiem, Strauss's Four Last
Songs, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Rachmaninoff's The Bells, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, and Ah! Perfido, Op.
65, Brahm's German Requiem, Elijah, by Mendelssohn, Mahler's 4th Symphony, Mozart's Requiem, Cantata para
America Magica, Op. 27 by Ginastera, Bruckner's Mass In D, Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915,
Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, Stravinsky's Stravinsky Mass, Hymn of Praise by Mendelssohn, Poulenc's
Gloria, Mozart's Vesperae Solemnes de Confessore, Beethoven's Christ on the Mt. Of Olives, Britten's Los
Illuminations, Handel's Messiah, Requiem by Rutter, Satie's Socrate, La Damoiselle Elue by Debussy,
Vivaldi's Gloria, Vaughan Willams' Hodie, and Aspen Jubilee by Nelson.
Since returning from Europe, Ms. Bradel is maintaining a very active and high
profile in her many opera and symphony engagements. She is in great demand as a vocalist, lecturer and
conductor of vocal master classes. A master voice teacher, Ms. Bradel maintains a distinguished voice
studio. In addition, she is an Associate Professor of music at Millersville University, is a member of
the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc., and is on the staff of the Central Pennsylvania
Voice Care Institute.
Recently she received the distinguised honor of being placed on the Wayne County, North Carolina Museum's "Wall of Fame" for her outstanding contributions as both a performer and an educator. |
