The mission of the Millersville University Music Department is to
develop students' curiosity, creativity, and sense of inquiry within a stimulating
environment for music. Grounded in a strong liberal arts education, the Music
Department aims at developing the whole person while preparing students to lead
productive lives as professionals. The Music Department provides opportunities to
all University students for developing personal, social, and cultural skills
essential to the development of educated and productive persons.
The Department of Music is committed to excellence in music
teaching and learning processes for all students of Millersville University,
and contributes to the University mission of providing a liberal education
with emphasis on cultural values by offering special course work in the arts
and humanities.
The Department of Music offers thorough preparation for
careers in music, music education, and music business and technology. In
addition, it provides opportunities for all University students to develop
musical skills and cultural understanding. The Department demonstrates a
unique focus and competence in integrating musicianship training into all
aspects of its curriculum.
The Music Department offers a broad-based curriculum that
encompasses music of the world and integrated an expanding use of technology
into our learning environments.
The Music Department provides opportunities for solo, chamber music, and large
ensemble performance, research, and collaborative scholarship for its faculty
and all University students and serves the University, regional, and
profession as a cultural center.
