Mission Statement
The Music Education Program at Millersville University strives to prepare the best
music educators for the twenty-first century. Course work in music education is unique in that it is designed
to integrate with the theory program and musicianship core to create musician/educators of a high caliber.
Core work in music education features a unique program of learning that brings together research and practice
so that graduates have a firm grounding for leadership positions in schools and a foundation for continuities
for practice teaching. The faculty is committed to a comprehensive view of music learning including issues of
creative and critical thinking, philosophically based education, student-centered learning, and issues of social
context.
