Robert Spence, Marching Band Director

Robert Spence begins his second year on the Millersville University faculty, serving as director of the Marauder Marching Band. A native Pennsylvania, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from IUP, a Master of Music degree in trombone performance from Syracuse University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind band conducting from Michigan State University.


Dr. Spence has teaching experience in the Pennsylvania public schools as instrumental music instructor for the Westmont Hilltop and Oley Valley districts. He has also accepted faculty appointments at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa and Albright College, Reading. In the spring of 2007 Dr. Spence joined the faculty of Elizabethtown College as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Studies.


Active throughout the country as a clinician and adjudicator, Dr. Spence in a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, College Band Directors National Association and the National Judges Association. Experienced in performing band, orchestra and jazz music, Dr. Spence if a member of Local 294, A.F., the New Holland Band and is on call as an extra/substitute trombonist for the Hershey, Lancaster and York Symphony Orchestras.
