AIM For Success Program Goals

1.  To provide access to Millersville University for students
     who show the potential to succeed in college with

     comprehensive academic support services.

2.  To offer academic support services which promote
     student's academic success, retention and graduation 

     from the University.

3.  To assist students to build the skills, habits and 
     aptitudes that determine success, both at the university

     and afterward, in their careers.

 
The AIM For Success Program comprises three steps that follow in a logical sequence according to the students' needs and growth at Millersville:

1. Summer Program
2. Fresh year experience
3. Phase of independence

SUMMER PROGRAM

Students must attend a comprehensive five weeks Summer residential program designed to ease their transition to the demands of college life and to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and oral communication. The Program is highly structured. Class attendance and participation in Program sponsored activities is mandatory. Students are expected to utilize Counseling and Tutorial services. A Summer tuition waiver is available for students who qualify depending on their family income. Students' performance during the Summer Program will determine whether they continue in The Program. To enroll in the Fall semester at Millersville, they must have demonstrated academic promise, perseverance and a positive attitude toward learning.

FRESHMAN YEAR EXPERIENCE

During the freshman year, students continue basic skill course work to achieve university competency levels, and they begin to take some required general education courses as well as those necessary for their major. Students receive intensive academic advisement in addition to personal and career counseling, they are expected to work closely with peer tutors to enhance academic skills Program staff monitor students academic performance very closely by means of counselor's reports and faculty evaluations.

PHASE OF INDEPENDENCE

Beginning with the sophomore year, students who have chosen an academic major are assigned to major advisors. Students are encouraged to become fully involved in all aspects of the Millersville University experience. During this step and continuing throughout student' university careers, AIM For Success staff monitors students' academic progress, and continues to support students with tutorial assistance and individual counseling, when requested by the students. Upper-class student 's academic achievement are recognized in the Program's Honor role, Achievers Circle and Advisory Board Award. Graduating seniors received a Program's graduation certificate.
