INFORMATION
A brochure outlining the eight Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence is available for students in every public and non-public high school in Pennsylvania. The INFORMATION LINE for the Governor's Schools is available from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.on weekdays, except holidays: (570) 524-5244. This is not toll-free and collect calls cannot be accepted. For specific information about the curriculum and residential life at the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Teaching, call (717) 871-2026.
NOTIFICATION
Applicants are notified of their final status in the Governor's School selection process by the end of the first week in April. Notification is in the form of a letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Education sent to the student's home address. The Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence are unable to provide individual assessments or grant appeals.
DEADLINE NOTICE & PROCEDURES
POSTMARK DEADLINE:
The deadline for postmark and reception of application can be found under PGST on the Governor's School for Excellence (PGSE) web site. The application must be completed according to the directions on page 2 and on page 9 (Guidance Counselor Form). APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER DUE DATE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. FAXED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure that the application has been completed according to the directions and that it has been mailed by the postmark deadline. The Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence are not responsible for lost, incomplete or delayed applications, or for those sent to incorrect addresses.

ELIGIBILITY
The applicant must be a current sophomore or junior in any secondary school at the time of the application deadline. Homeschoolers are eligible.
The applicant must have at least one custodial parent or legal, court-appointed guardian whose primary residence of record is in Pennsylvania. Military dependents stationed in Pennsylvania are eligible.
The applicant may not have previously attended any of the eight Pennsylvania Governor's Schools.
The applicant may apply to no more than two of the eight Pennsylvania Governor's Schools in a year.
The student who accepts an invitation to attend the Governor's School must commit to staying in residence for the full 35-day program which does not allow trips home or other absences.
No exceptions are made to these requirements.
GROUNDS FOR APPLICATION DISQUALIFICATION
Ineligibility of applicant.
Lateness. See Deadline Notice on page 1.
Failure to file with the correct office: PGSE--PGST/PDE-8th Fl./333 Market St./Harrisburg, PA 17126-0333.
Incompleteness of the application. The application must be submitted in its entirety at one time.
Plagiarism or falsification of information on the application.

APPLICANT PROCEDURES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The applicant should review each form before proceeding with the application process. The applicant should make sure the guidance counselor has all of the parts of the application ready at least a week before the deadline. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO COMPLETE THE WORK.
The applicant must complete the information lines at the tops of pages 5, 7 and 9 (the two Teacher Reference Forms and the Guidance Counselor Recommendation Form).
The applicant gives the teacher forms to the individuals selected to complete them. The teachers submit their completed forms directly to the guidance counselor to protect confidentiality. Homeschoolers should call the PGSE Information Line at (570) 5245244 for advice on references.
The applicant completes the information lines on the front of the Personal Data Form (page 3), as well as the extracurricular resume and essays required on page 4. The applicant and a parent/legal guardian sign on page 4. The applicant staples this material together and gives it to the guidance counselor.
The guidance counselor completes the Counselor Recommendation, attaches the student's transcript, two Teacher Reference Forms and the Personal Data Form with the required attachments and mails the application by the postmark deadline. See page I for deadline information.
Optional: The student or guidance counselor may attach to the front of the Personal Data Form a SELF-ADDRESSED, STAMPED POSTCARD with the wording "Acknowledgment of receipt of Application for the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Teaching."
The selection committee will not consider any recommendations or letters of support other than the two Teacher Reference Forms and the Guidance Counselor Recommendation Form required by the application.
It is the applicant's responsibility to follow-up on all of the procedures in order to ensure a viable application. To avoid the disappointment of disqualification, the applicant should complete the Personal Data Form as soon as possible and routinely check with the teacher references and the guidance counselor to make sure all forms have been appropriately processed.
