  • Share experiences you’ve had with the lesson and students
  • Provide or describe any visual aids or activities you use

Assignment: The Article Never Written           25 points

All teachers have said at some time, “I wish there had been an article written about this” or “I should write an article about that.” This is your assignment. You are to write the article that was never written that you wanted to read. Articles will actually be considered for publication in the PAGE newsletter, The Update.
Topics must relate to some gifted issue.

The following suggestions may help with developing your article but do not need to be followed.

Introduction

  1. Reason for the article. Why is it needed?
  2. Why did this topic trigger your interest?
  3. What audience is targeted with your idea? (students, parents, administrators, classroom teachers, teachers of gifted, politicians, school board members, your choice)

Main Body of the article

  1. Break it into logical subsections with headings
  2. Include appropriate charts, graphics
  3. The article must include some unique thought, observation, or connection that you wish to share with your research (identify this either in the article or in a separate note to me at the end of the article)
  4. Quotes, references from resources should be footnoted.

Conclusion

  1. Summarize key points or pull the ideas in the article together into a meaningful ending
  2. Give indications of where we should go from here or what additional research is needed

Possible topic categories:
Thinking Skills         Models of Intellect          Special Populations
Identification     Gifted in Regular Education  Content for Gifted
Programming             Counseling                   Advocacy
Emotional issues        Program Evaluation           Creativity
Home schooling     Parenting Gifted             Adult Gifted

 Assignment: Technology Component

  • Grade levels
  • Individual or group project
  • Reasons why it’s appropriate for gifted students
  • The lesson plan
  • Resources needed

One of these can be presented during class on Wednesday afternoon.

Goals for your Program this Year                    20 points

Based on information presented this week, develop three new objectives to develop for gifted students in your program or classroom this year. Provide information that includes: What are the objectives? Why did you choose these objectives? What resources do you need? Prioritize the objectives and give an estimated time line to implement them.
