Writing Institute- "Mentoring Writing "

August 4-8, 2008 on-campus at Millersville University, Bolger Conference Center/Gordinier Building in (insert Room)

The Institute provides elementary, middle school and high school teachers of English/language arts with an understanding of the critical intersections between contemporary composition theory and effective teaching practices. Within a collegial environment that emphasizes personal and professional growth, participants will have opportunities to develop themselves as writers and as teachers of writing.

The theme for the 2008 Institute is Mentoring Writing . Through dynamic and pragmatic presentations by nationally known speakers, discussions, and workshops, participants will gain practical insights and strategies to use in their classrooms and in their own writing.

Institute Objectives

By the conclusion of this institute elementary, middle school and high school teachers of English/Language Arts will expand their knowledge about

  • Encouraging students' deep reflection and revision
  • Designing effective writing assignments
  • Fostering committed student writing
  • Assessing writing in student-centered ways that inspire growth
