Intramural FAQ

Intramural Sports, what’s that?

Intramural Sports also, affectionately know as “IM Sports” is one of the most popular programs offered within the Campus Recreation Department @ Millersville University.

More than 15 different team sports or individual events are offered within structured leagues & tournaments to the university community throughout the academic year.

IM Sports enables you to compete within an enjoyable environment to have fun and compete for an intramural champion t-shirt, “It’s all about the shirt.”

Why participate?

Why not participate?

IM Sports is an important part of the college learning experience because it encourages mass participation in an enjoyable environment no matter your skill level while it aids in your ability to manage your time, reduce stress, develop character, learn leadership skills & promote sportsmanship.

Not only do you meet a lot of people from diverse backgrounds, you have the opportunity to feel part of the university community.

Who can play?

Any current student, faculty, staff and in coed activities a spouse of a student, faculty or staff may participate in the intramural sports program.

When & Where can I sign-up?

Please refer to the intramural calendar for deadline dates & times.
In order to be entered in a league to play, it is your responsibility to complete & return information before or by the deadline to the proper personnel or campus recreation department.

A person CANNOT PLAY on two (2) teams in the same gender or division (Coed, men's, women's division) in the same sport.

YOU CAN PLAY ON THE FOLLOWING:

1 Men's Softball Team & 1 Coed Softball Team

1 Women's Softball Team & 1 Coed Softball Team

Not adhering to this rule WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING BARRED FROM INTRAMURAL ACTIVITY FOR THE SEMESTER!!!

Additionally, the teams in which you played will forfeit all games & be ineligible for playoffs, no exceptions!

I don’t have a team, how do I play?

Intramural's is a great way to meet people & if you do not have a team, the intramural department will put you on a team.

We encourage you to sign up as a “Free Agent" @ http://millersville.athleague.com/home

Athleagues allows YOU to create your team, invite your teammates, recruit new teammates & be unique!!!

Athleagues allows US to connect, contact, update & offer you more in your intramural experience.

All free agents will be contacted & informed of team name, team captain, first scheduled game & where to view team schedule.  Free agents are NOT required to pay a fee to participate.

What is a captain’s meeting, why is it mandatory that I attend?

A captain’s meeting is a meeting in which all team captains receive important information pertaining to intramural policies & procedures along with rule clarifications.

This meeting is mandatory for all team captains because information reviewed promotes consistency & understanding of policies, procedures & rules while it assists in decreasing confusion that teams may face during activities, thus keeping everyone on a level playing field.

All captain's meetings are on Wednesdays @ 9:00 p.m. in Pucillo Gym, Room 210, upstairs along the track.

Additionally, you must pay your $10 forfeit fee @ the Student Memorial Center Bank (SMC) before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. You must bring the forfeit fee receipt you receive after payment @ the SMC bank to the captain's meeting for league entry = NO FORFEIT FEE RECEIPT, NO PLAY!!!

Most importantly, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU MUST ATTEND A CAPTAIN'S MEETING!!!

When & Where are games played?

Games are played Sunday through Thursday with the majority of games played from 9:00 p.m. until midnight except Sundays which games could begin as early as 3:00 p.m. depending on the sport, number of entries & facility space.

Games are played @ Pucillo & Brooks Gym, Chryst Field @ Biemesderfer Stadium, Pucillo Grass Fields, McComsey Courts, McComsey varsity tennis courts & Harbold outdoor sand volleyball courts located within the university community.

Do we have to provide our own equipment?

No, you do not have to provide your own equipment because the intramural department provides equipment for the majority of intramural activities & sports offered to the university community.

If you choose to bring your own equipment understand that this equipment is community equipment in which all participants can use your equipment & the intramural department is not held responsible for damage to your equipment.

We encourage you to mark your equipment appropriately, so if lost, stolen or damaged it can be identified & returned to the proper person.  If you do lose your equipment, please contact the intramural department @ 717.872.3960 or AIM: MUIntramurals in a timely manner, so we can offer you assistance in finding your lost equipment.

How much does it cost to play?

All activities & sports (individual or team) have an entry fee of $10 except for green fees for golf tournaments.

The $10 fee is considered a forfeit fee which means if you do not forfeit any games you can transfer the fee to any activity or sport within that semester.  If an individual or team has transferred their forfeit fee and forfeits that individual or team will forfeit all games after the initial forfeit until a new $10 forfeit fee is paid. Ultimatley, an indiviudal or team cannot advance to the next round, cannot participate in playoffs & lose their forfeit fee.

I want a job, can I work for intramural's?

Yes, you can! We want students to work in the campus recreation department! We believe in providing our employees with a fun work environment through paid training, flexible schedules, & allowing them the opportunity to play in intramurals as they work in intramurals.

We not only have competitive pay rates throughout campus, we provide students the opportunity to learn how to become leaders, manage people & situations, opportunities to travel to state, regional & national conferences & tournaments while networking, learning new information & discovering their passions.
