Career Goals/Objectives - a short, one-sentence statement of the position and responsibilities you're looking for

Education - be sure to put most recent educational institution first (don't list high schools), degree received (or to be received and the expected date of graduation), and put your QPA (both major and overall), as well as any honors you've received (i.e., Dean's list, summa/magna/cum laude, etc.)

Work Experience - list the jobs you've held that are related to your professional goals by most recent start date first, and include a short statement of your responsibilities; include internships, co-ops, and course-related work experience

Activities/Awards/Achievements/Interests - if they relate to potential job qualifications

Other Qualifications - list any particular skills you have that make you particularly good for the position you're applying for, ways that your education and/or job experience have prepared you for the particular job you're applying for, and other things

References - be sure to check with your references to ensure (a) that you can use these people as references, and (b) that they'll give you positive references; list at least three references (employers, faculty, co-op supervisors - be sure that they will be appropriate references for the position you're applying for)

Things to Remember:

-- You should always write your resumé for the particular position you're applying for. Don't just have one stock version for every and any job; make it specific for the job to show that you're interested in the position.

-- For the sophomore review session, you should write the resumé that you would submit if you were to apply for the job you discuss in your sophomore review essay. It should be presented professionally, so proofread, spell- and grammar-check it, and fact check it, especially your GPA, employment experience, and references.

-- Use formatting to highlight your strengths, particular qualifications, and the stuff you want employers to notice. However, don't do too much to it - content matters much more than form.

In general, when submitting a resumé...

-- When submitting a resumé to your employer, you don't want to print it on standard copy paper. You should use a good quality cotton bond paper, but don't use something with pretty or funky patterns on it.

-- Be sure to send the correct resumé to each employer, and be sure that your career objectives match the job you're applying for. Otherwise, your resumé will be filed in the circular bin.
