Why study Special Education at Millersville University?

MU Special Education professors promote non-traditional methods of instruction and approach the discipline in a developmental and functional manner throughout the sequential and systematic curriculum.

Will I get a job?

Absolutely. If teacher candidates are flexible about age and ability levels, special education teachers are one of the most highly recruited professionals. There is a very broad and diverse population of school-age children and youth with disabilities. Expect to have a dynamic and challenging career.

Can I complete my degree in 4 years?

Yes. If teacher candidates plan diligently, remain focused and persistent, and get good grades, students can complete the major in 4 years and dual majors in 4 1/2. The curriculum is designed with that as a goal.

Can I live at home when I student teach?

Expect to student teach within a one hour radius of the University.

Will I get accommodations if needed?

MU embraces the letter and spirit of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. This includes reasonable accommodations for those who have designated need. All teacher candidates must meet the requirements of the program and the requirements of teacher certification.
