Fall orientation is all about getting you acquainted with campus so you feel comfortable and prepared for your arrival in the fall. One important part is getting your class schedule ready. All students starting in the Fall 2008 semester will be required to schedule their placement tests in the spring.
At Millersville, all students must take at least one math course. To help determine which math course will be best for you to take, all incoming new students are required to take a math placement test. This test will help faculty members and advisors schedule you in the appropriate math course. For similar reasons, some students may be required to take a chemistry and/or biology and/or a foreign language placement test as well. This will set you up to receive your full class schedule when you arrive for orientation.

Chemistry, Physics and Meteorology majors (or students considering one of these majors)
are REQUIRED to take the following exams:

Math is required for all non-science majors, including ELED, ELSP and SPED majors.
Incoming students who have declared Elementary Education and/or Special Education as their major and incoming students who are currently undeclared but intend to declare Elementary Education and/or Special Education as a major please note the following:
The placement test that you will be taking is called the Basic Skills Test (BST). On the math department website there is a list of topics covered on the BST, a set of sample questions and their solutions. Learn more about the Basic Skills Test.
Also note that the dates (Wednesdays) given on this web page apply to current students and do not apply to new incoming students.

Students who are transferring in credits and wish to see if they may be exempt from taking a placement test, should read the information listed below. If there are further questions, contact the placement coordinator for the department you are inquiring about, listed at the bottom of this page. It is possible that transfer students will receive an exemption from taking the math placement test, but that determination will be made only through the math placement coordinator.
This test is required for all new students. (Transfer students who have received credit for a college-level math course should contact the math placement coordinator to see if they must take this test. Email dschultz@millersville.edu, or call 717-872-3531).

This test is required for all new students in the following majors: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science (including Meteorology). If your major is undecided (Exploratory) and you are considering a major in any of these departments, you should take the chemistry placement test.

Transfer students: If you have successfully transferred general chemistry college credits, you do NOT need to take this test.
Students who wish to register for a course numbered higher than Biology 100 must take this test. This test is required for all new students in the following majors: Biology, Chemistry (concentration in Biochemistry), and Earth Sciences.

All entering foreign language majors are required to take the foreign language placement test to assess the extent of their competency in the target language they wish to study (French, German and Spanish). The placement test is also used to determine the appropriate level for all students wishing to take a course numbered 201 or above. Details regarding the foreign language placement test can be obtained by viewing the foreign language department website.
