Leadership has and always will be a valued characteristic of people. It is becoming increasingly important to college students as they attempt to enter the work force. Employers desire people who will communicate well, maintain organization, and inspire others to follow their ideas.
Millersville University has countless opportunities for leadership, many of which are available in the Greek Community. Students are able to hold positions in their individual chapters as officers, committee members, or general members. Each of these positions allows students to learn leadership skills. They are able to practice delegation, set goals, and interact with others on campus. These students are also able to hold council offices, which govern their organizations. With so many avenues for leadership, students are presented with great opportunities that can have an impact on their future success.
While Greek members hold many offices related to their affiliation, they also hold offices all over campus. These leaders interact daily with the university administration, faculty, alumni, and other students. They continually work to positively impact the entire Millersville campus.
The question is Why Leadership? The answer is, because it is the right thing to do. Leadership is a crucial part of the learning process, and an important part of student organizations on campus. Employers today are seeking students who are balanced and well rounded and they often look at the leadership opportunities students have participated in during their tenure at college. Millersville is no different. Student organizations are run by student leaders. The campus is made whole and improved by those same student leaders.
As you become a graduate of Millersville University, you will enter society, communities, and companies that are in need of your leadership. As a student, you are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities available on campus to learn, practice, and hone your leadership skills. Some of these opportunities are in fraternities and sororities on campus. Others are available through student government, Greek councils, in your classes, through jobs on campus, by being Orientation Leader, by becoming a Resident Assistant, and so on. If you are looking for leadership opportunities, you will not have to look far. You will however, have to act to take advantage of the opportunities. Fraternities and sororities on campus are looking for student leaders, they are creating student leaders, and they are helping to develop citizens who will be leaders in their community when they leave Millersville.
You are encouraged to find the ways that you can be a leader on campus and then act. It has been said that the only power on earth, strong enough to keep you from succeeding, is you.
Why Leadership? Because you are a leader. Why Leadership? Because student organizations, like fraternities and sororities, are looking for people like you. Why Leadership? Because it is the right thing to do.
