Tutee: Procedures and Responsibilities
Thank you for your interest in the Tutoring Center. In order to help the tutoring process function effectively, you are required to follow the procedures listed below. Please read the following procedures and responsibilities before filling out the Tutoring Request Form.
-
1. You are not guaranteed the assignment of a tutor; however, the Tutoring Center will do its best to match your request within a reasonable amount of time. Please allow 10-14 days for your individual tutoring request to be matched with an available tutor. While waiting, we suggest:
- Attending the open group tutoring sessions – times and dates are available on request
- Meeting with your professor during office hours to receive help
- Asking a classmate or friend for help
-
2. You will be notified by e-mail or phone when a tutor has been assigned to you. It is your responsibility to meet your tutor during an initial meeting in the Tutoring Center, located at Lyle room 118 (the 1st floor of Lyle Hall). These brief meetings will take place Monday through Thursday between 9:30-5:00pm and Friday between 9:00-3:00. You will be notified of the specific time.
-
3. During the initial meeting, you will meet your tutor and pick up the “Professor Notification of Tutoring Packet”. You and your tutor will arrange a regular time and place to meet for tutoring, you will exchange phone number and email addresses, and you will provide your tutor with the name, phone number, office hours, and office location of your professor.
-
4. It is your responsibility to arrive at the specific time and day to meet your tutor. If you are unable to do so, you must notify the Tutoring Center as soon as possible. If you simply fail to show up without notification or cancel your meeting two (2) times, your tutor will be assigned to someone else, and you will have to reapply for a tutor.
-
5. It is your responsibility to give your professor the “Professor Notification of Tutoring Packet.” (To provide better service, the tutors are required to meet with their tutee’s professors. Giving your professor the “Professor Notification of Tutoring Packet” facilitates this contact and lets the professor know you are interested in working on the course.)
-
6. Once all of these steps have been completed, you are free to meet with your tutor every week for up to one (1) hour for every credit (i.e., a 3-credit class will allow you three (3) hours of tutoring a week, if needed). (*AIM For Success students, please see Graduate Assistants for additional hours.)
-
7. All tutoring sessions must take place in a public place, such as the library and may NOT take place in a dorm room, apartment, or home.
-
8. It is your responsibility to show up for the tutoring session with specific questions or problems, complete assignments, notes, textbooks, and other course related materials. Tutors will be available to clarify information, answer questions, explain problem-solving methods, and provide similar help. Tutors will NOT do problems, reports, or other assignments for you.
-
9. If problems in the tutoring relationship arise (i.e., scheduling conflicts, personal conflicts, etc.), please contact the Tutoring Center immediately at 871-2420 or tutoringcenter@millersville.edu
-
10. If you are unable to attend a scheduled meeting with your tutor, contact her/him immediately and cancel the meeting. Missed appointments strain the relationship. Missing two (2) tutoring sessions without notice will result in your need to reapply for a tutor.
